.bmp - Bitmap Image
.gif - Graphical Interchange Format
.jpg - Joint Photographic Experts Group Image
.png - Portable Network Graphic
.tif - Tagged Image File Format

JPEG files are the most widely used picture format with digital frame, because they combine the benefits of both high image quality and smaller file sizes.  Most digital cameras save digital images as JPEG files, while JPEG and GIF files are used nearly exclusively for pictures on websites.  Bitmap images generally carry the same image quality as JPEG's, however, the file sizes are much larger.  Different digital photo frames support different file formats, but you'll want to make sure your's supports JPEG files.

To determine the image file type of photos you'd like to store on a digital photo frame, simply view the extension of the file (the last 3 letters following the last '.' of the filename).  Most browsers (or folder views) have file extensions hidden, so you can simply right click on the file and go to “Properties” to view the image's file type (extension).

When loading images on to the digital photo frame, you'll want to try to keep the image size to 1MB or less.  A 1MB JPEG file will hold just about all the image quality your digital frame will be able to display.  Although most digital frames can handle higher file sizes, a 2MB JPEG file will not show up any better on the frame than a 1MB JPEG file and it can slow down image loading and file transferring.  Digital cameras today take such high quality photos (measured in Megapixels), that it may be a good idea to use an image viewing program to compress the picture before storing the image on a digital photo frame or using it on an email or webpage.

supported audio file formats include:

.aif - Audio Interchange File
.mid - MIDI file format
.mp3 - MPEG Layer 3 Audio
.mpa - MPEG Audio
.ra - Real Audio
.ram - Real Audio Media
.wav - Windows WAVE Sound
.wma - Windows Media Audio

To determine the audio file type of sounds/songs you'd like to store on a digital photo frame, simply view the extension of the file (the last 3 letters following the last '.' of the filename).  Most browsers (or folder views) have file extensions hidden, so you can simply right click on the file and go to “Properties” to view the audio file's type (extension).

Due to their highly compressed (low) file size and relatively high sound quality, MP3 audio files are by far the most popular audio files used today.  Any digital photo frame supporting sound should have no problem playing an .mp3 file, but other audio files may be supported as well.
